Manager, Marketing Analytics & Strategic Initiatives

This position oversees all financial aspects relating to marketing efforts at Checkers/Rally’s, working closely with senior marketing and finance leadership to evaluate, analyze, report, visualize, and draw insights on all aspects of marketing tests, promotions, coupons, and strategic initiatives.   Position requires leadership in sales and food cost planning and forecasting. 



  • Lead analysis of and provide financial perspective on all marketing actions/initiatives to guide organization to make most optimal decisions:
    • Marketing tests and promotion analysis:
      • Partner with Marketing on timing and site/market selection of all tests. 
      • Perform “test and learn” analysis to understand incremental impacts from tests.  Requires pre vs. post, test vs. control analysis via our APT (Applied Predictive Technologies) tool set. 
      • For each action and test, provide proactive and timely analysis on all key metrics with a focus on results, insights, and observations.
      • Summarize results of all activity to company leadership team, drawing insights and recommendations as appropriate.
    • Menu changes/mix analysis
      • Understand and communicate shifts in mix and impacts to check and transactions as Marketing enhances the menu.
    • Coupon activity
      • Work closely with the marketing team to recommend markets and timing to achieve optimum results.
      • Track and report progress and redemption at the restaurant level.
      • Report weekly results against goals, highlighting variances and rationale/insights.
    • Pricing analysis & requests
      • Partner with Consumer Insights team to lead discussion and decision process around all pricing activity.
      • Communicate pricing decisions as necessary to IT, Operations, etc.
    • Delivery, digital initiatives, and other strategic actions
      • Analyze impacts/return of delivery and other specialized initiatives.  Proactively suggest best next steps based on results. 
    • Franchise support
      • Provide regular updates to field marketing to support market business meetings with franchisees.
      • Identify trends and problematic markets to drive action.
  • Drive sales and food cost annual planning and quarterly re-forecasting processes:
    • Process leadership requires consideration of all primary and secondary messages, growth layers, delivery, and other activity by event.
    • Highlight periods with challenging comps vs. plan and make appropriate recommendations to solve.
    • Report actual performance vs. plan, forecast, and prior year on consistent basis.  Perform ad-hoc analysis as necessary.
  • Visualize results through Tableau dashboards, Excel schedules, and other tools that influence action by leadership on a weekly/daily basis.
  • Be a champion of data accessibility, accuracy, and quality for the Finance team by collaborating with our Technology team.
  • Be curious!  Find data nuggets, trends and other analytical tidbits that help Checkers grow faster and generate more profit for the company.
  • Manage NPF fund (marketing fund):
    • Partner with marketing and accounting to establish, track, and report on the NPF fund throughout the year.
    • Highlight above/below budget activity and facilitate discussions to resolve potential issues.
    • Determine return from NPF-driven initiatives.  Recommend optimizations of spend as appropriate.



  • Serves as back-up for Operations Analysis Manager and Senior Director, Finance, as necessary.
  • Serves on cross-functional projects/teams as needed.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.




  • Superior analytic and problem-solving skills.  Ability to perform advanced analytics to better understand the critical drivers of our business – including but not limited to diner behavior, restaurant relationships, product engagement, and market-specific performance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to handle multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, adjust to sudden changes in workflow, and maintain high quality standards.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executive leadership.
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with expeditious execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to build relationships and collaboratively work with all levels within the organization as well as with guests, franchisees, and suppliers.
  • Capability to drive sales and food cost planning/forecasting process.
  • Ability to maintain all job-related information in a confidential and private manner.



  • BA/BS in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or other analytical field from top-tier University.  MBA preferred.



  • 7+ years of experience in an analytical role, preferably within tech, consulting, corporate strategy, or finance organizations.
  • 7+ years of experience in a Finance, Corporate Strategy, Consulting, or Marketing Analytics role.
  • Restaurant/QSR, Retail, or Multi-Unit experience is preferred.
  • Proven analytical skills with an ability to dive deep, summarize, and communicate important data to drive executive action.
  • Familiarity with Test and Learn approach.  Experience working with APT tools is a plus.
  • SQL skills required.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Tableau / data visualization skills are highly desirable.
  • Experience managing direct reports.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written information such as procedure manuals, Company communications or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to Travel may be required to attend off-site training, meetings and seminars.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods in one location which may be restricted to the employee’s workstation.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
